WRXnate's VF52 2008 WRX

Perrin intake
3" catless downpipe
SPT catback
Tial 38mm EWG
TXS MBC
Perrin TMIC
Stock bov

Tuning notes:
Maine 91 octane
20psi peak to 15.3 at redline
Conservative timing (took very well considering the 91)
Special AVCS map picked up 14hp and 16tq on a back to back run :)
11.0 afr to 10.8 taper

Overlayed on a previous E-tune we did a while ago (19 psi to same 15psi taper, similar afr, older AVCS mapping which lost power up top) As much as I believe in safe e-tunes, every mass air flow equipped car needs a personal touch in person!

Nice numbers!

Is normally what the 2.5's make with the VF52?

Oh, and Nate.... Don't forget to take traction control off.

WRXnate
07-11-2010, 08:03 PM
Traction control FTL!

Also, I will be going for an oil change this week, and will be addressing an exhaust leak we found at the up pipe to manifold connection. That coupled with readjusting my boost controller might net me some more pull.

Don't you love it when you find all the misc. leaks during tuning

we seafoamed the car and the uppipe started smoking.........yup :)

Hahaha. Yah that was pretty funny. We were both like where the heck is all the smoke coming from????

It's all depending on supporting mods. Stock TMIC cars will make a bit less.

just out of curiosity, how much do the intake, cat-back, and external wastegate add to those numbers? Do you think they'd see much the same with just the downpipe and TMIC?

Remember his car was on 91, so definitely a negative to power to the 93 tuning we have around here.

A downpipe only tmic car should be good for 275-280whp. I've done a few to 270whp (Airboy and dynapack/mustang dyno) without a tmic. Intakes seem to do very little.

as a random aside, when I come out to get tuned, I'd love to take the RC51 for a ride! I just sold my 929...and I've always loved the RC-51s.

Crazy numbers for 91 cat piss! Did the EWG make it hold boost noticeably better up top?

Also, hey Jim, welcome to NES!

Strangely enough.....no.

It held similar to most IWG cars (14.5-15 at redline). He is going to check his older style bleed mbc and uppipe connection.

Yah. Gotts updata the MBC, and UP leaks blow. I'll have that fixed this week.

gtspec header/up pipe.......................

WRXnate
07-12-2010, 05:26 PM
Can't do it man.... GTspec fails at 38mm UP's with 3 bolt, and I have a 2 bolt flange on the pipe I have. Im leaning towards getting the Agency Power headers. They mimic the GTspec's 4 into 1 collection, but are 2 bolt. This is the only option I have found.

I'll just put this here. I'm kinda liking the 68HTA option.

And Bren, I hate you for making me want this right now. You made me fall back in love with my car. (no homo)

Had the car in the shop for an oil change today. Had them look over my UP connection for a leak. Nothing obvious. They sprayed it all down looking for bubbles with nothing found. I guess the smoke we were seeing was blowing back under the car, and the fan was picking it up.

BG @ BrenTuning
07-14-2010, 04:17 PM
try seafoaming it again, with no fan, wind.

I have an HTA68 on it's way to me

I also used to have the TDC VF40/18g... made 306 whp with 104 octance TORCO

Do they make a direct bolt on HTA68 for you car?

BG @ BrenTuning
07-14-2010, 07:18 PM
Yes they do. :)

but with the 2.5L he would be doing himself a dis-service to not go 20g.

Step 1: remove VF52
Step 2: sell for $800
Step 3: buy 20G XT for additional $600
Step 4: Call Bren
Step 5: live life a 1/4 mile at a time

He can't run that, he needs specific clocked turbo, like BNR's 20g.

Look at the compressor outlet on the vf52, it goes straight up, the dom 3 does not, normal pre 08 wrx setup. The other turbo won't work unless he was fmic with an adapter pipe.

Yah, need something a little more specific to the car. I plan on staying with TMIC.

Plan goes like this:

Pull and sell VF52. ~$500.
Send VF40 core into BNR (I have one in hand already)
Get new hybrid 20g back ($825)
Install turbo along with new injectors
Get down to see Bren for a tune.
Blow up clutch
Cry a little.
