ok not very mechanically inclined and new to subarus, i've been having problems with my car accelerating lately, i own an 05lgt 5eat, whenever i'm in low rpms regardless of what gear i'm in. my car has a lot of hesitation, almost as if the car is surging back an forth trying to get going. its hard for me to describe this as i have no idea whats going on. once the turbo is engaged it runs fine but trying to build boost and accelerate it runs awful. I tried cleaning my maf sensor and cleaning the intake and disconnecting the battery, once i do that it runs great for about 75miles and then starts acting up again. if anyone has any ideas it would be great and i can offer more info if need be. :unamused:

I have the same problem. I was just reading on LGT.com that there is a common "studder" problem and a quik reprogram patch from a dealer is supposed to fix it. I don't believe it. I have checked for leaks, changed plugs, cleaned my MAF and swapped the coils.
I have been custom tuned so I doubt that it's a computer related issue.
One of the techs on this board thinks it may be the valves. :unamused:

hmm its weird cause it seems to go away every time i disconnect the battery, i've been bren tuned as well only stage 1. have you had this problem for long? its definetly maddening. I dont even want to get started how it accelerates when the ac is on, its like i'm trying to tow the titanic, lol

well i sure hope not, i've spent some time on the legacygt.com forums, and it seems like im not the only person with this problem. it appears to be an ecu problem but no one really knows for sure. i feel like if it was a mechanical problem it wouldn't go away every time i reset the ecu, but what do i know

sounds like turbo lag. an ecu reprograming should take care of that. I believe that the reason why it doesn't do it after unhooking the battery is because the computer needs to re-learn the intake and pressure curves so it acts differently for about 50-100 miles. thats about how long it takes for a computer to set it's self.

do i need to go to a dealership for an ecu reprogramming?

Could just contact Bren. Probably be the same price as what the dealership would charge for a reflash if there's an update, plus you'd get your car fully tuned :)

Mine was happening before my brentune then went away for a few days after it was tuned. I have the EXACT same issue as you. I don't think it's the turbo.

Yeah, hopefully you can get it figured out. :unamused:
But then tell me what it was, so that I don't let it happen to mine

fyi. when my #4 piston had a broken ringland, it would run more powerful until it "learned", then the power would fade away. then one day it started smoking, then i fixed it. maybe do a compression test? fairly easy.

29lbs dual mass flywheel is the culprit in my opinion.

thanks for the thoughts, all things to try. although a compression test seems like a real pain in the a. just had my spark plugs changed and my mechanic was really enthused about doing it, not. its weird how it comes and goes, i dont think my car likes the humidity lately nor do I. well i'll keep looking into it, and hopefully get to some meets so i can chat with you guys. thanks

I have an ACT. :unamused:
I may run the car with the MAF unplugged for a few days and see if it still reacts the same. I have also cleaned me MAF a few times but I know that sometimes cleaning won't do the trick.
BTW..I hate it when Eric's right so he better not be!

I have gone though this..on injected...
I'll be damned if i remember what it was.:unamused:
I think I cooled intake down as much as possible...stopped similar problem...and made SURE no interference with outside air and electrical by using hard plastic duct. This year is a bad one for electric games. flying carbons are gonna get worse. It starts with the very air an engine breathes.
the flywheel stuff:
the boxers love balanced mass, they use it not abuse it...from tiny ones to the modern monster.

i've pretty much got it running good now, cleaned the maf sensor for the fifth time, didn't realize there was this tiny wire up inside that needed to be cleaned, and i seafoamed it. also had brens help from brentuning!! this guy is amazing. we did what i mentioned above and a little aggressive driving:devil: we pretty much cleared it up. if it acts up again im upgrading to stage 2. thinkin catless up, catted down, full catback and of course a brentune:D

That's great to hear. I should seafoam mine. Yesterday when I stepped on it on the highway, I swore I saw the white smoke of death behind me. Now I'm all paranoid :spin:

i asked my buddy who's a scoobie tech and owns an 05 LGT turbo and said that this problem is due to the variable cam timing. He says that dirt and debree gather inside the cam sprockets and oil feeds. He also said that people who have had their cars acess tuned for stage one or two have told him that it clears up some of the problem.

on your car we actually did no additional tuning just clearing of old fuel trims, your maf was just gunked to hell. :)
