the ring nut, 87 subaru. I found this photo, at a tool shop..not in stock. anyone got one sitting around. The ring nut on my 87 is not steel, do not want to smash it around getting it loose. I got the air compressor up and running...just want to hammer it out slow. (23 years old)

I got the new bearing in the mail...nice to see federal mogul package, the dark grey of high psi steel. :)

I do have a gentle way to remove and replace... the ring nut is the one that may get a beating without the tool.
I think I broke a pin in the bearing, inner, smashing at the spindle...learned my lesson. Now I have to take apart the whole thing.

found tool ebay...
SU-022

another number is with a
V
VO-SU022
the SU is genuine part number, the v may be a gathering of subaru overhead for someone else.

40 bucks is steep... but the bearing was 70% less than what I am used to...still worth it.
:)
unless someone has one, I have to grab the ebay one.

to update myself, I just ordered one from a place called skywaytools.

the location has several other businesses, that have suby specialty tools ..

chico , CA.

37 delivered. why not.

and what I thought was a brass ring nut claiming 127-163 foot pounds is steel with old school rust protector (yellow stuff is like paint)
I got under the car and verified steel....I could only guess it is gonna take a 300 ft pound ingersoll rand hammering away for a little while... :unamused:

tough object to find, they call it a pin socket wrench... what does pin have to do with it?
:dunno:

I've always used a hammer and a punch. The ring nut is steel, it's just pretty soft. But I've never had any issues doing it that way, and neither did 987687 when he recently did his. But it is a nice tool

I would just assume bang at it too...
but I have an extra worry in my old buggy. If it was the right one to hammer apart, I would.. but the left. wow. there was some strong physic to eat at stuff. I gotta take apart slow and examine the innards ...

The last left rear weld let out a rumble and flickered lights in following days after weld.

I hope it did not do the old electric weld itself...

over 100foot pounds and a crazy problem is a good candidate. will know maybe next weekend.

I am enthused about the weight of the socket, it goes to show the torques actually match the tool. This is the only special tool I have purchased for the sube, and it really is a weird one, for any car. I see mercedes did something similar, but smaller...and that is about all I could find for this ring nut madness..
