2008 WRX on Racecomp Tarmac 2's
Stock wheel/tire combo is 205/50-17 on 17x7+50 I beleive.
Putting the tires on RPF-1's @ 17x8+45 (I think it's +45, might be +48)
Looking at 235/45-17s or 235/40-17s...what is your opinion on either?
I was looking at 245's but they will rub unless I roll.
Tires in question are Dunlop Z1 Star Spec

Pros and Cons I have so far
40 - Handle slightly better due to shorter sidewall
40 - Slightly more performance...more mechanical advantage and less load on gears.
45 - Closer to stock diameter, slightly larger (0.9%)
45 - Fill out wheel well better?
45 - More pot hole clearance
45's being larger I'm not sure if I will have clearance issues...I don't think I will. My 225's I had on had plenty of clearance.
Price is about the same (~$20 difference total on all four)

i just put falken 912 235/45/17 on 17x8 rotas on my sti and notice a lot more flex in the corners than the 225/45/17 re70s on oem bbs that i had on there. With the 235's i still have clearance and the have a better ride. But now they are on there i wish i went with 18s.
star spec's are great tires to.

They came in 3rd in Tire Racks extreme performance tire test and are significantly cheaper than the top 2 contenders.

for what it's worth, i've heard from a few people in the bizz that know a **** load more than i do that the star specs run a little bit wider than other tires of the same size and profile.

my friend runs them on his 04 sti stock size and he says that they handle and grip a lot like the re70's

im running the exact wheel size, and i have been running 245/45/17 with no rubbing for daily driving. AutoX's i have seen minor rubbing, but not enough for me to worry.
Also, i am lowerd 1". And i use bridgestones.

im on 235/40/17s and i dig em.
although the wheelwell does look strangely empty, i think it will clear up once i get some lowering springs on.

Now people on other forums have me thinking 245/40-17s...seems to be the size to get from the Auto-X subie guys.
They are not much shorter than the stock 205/50s
