So I was browsing through some HTML5 demos tonight (HTML5 ftw), and low and behold, I found a demo that was a replica of a part of this... Found a video on YouTube, and just had to post it up...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XtCW-axRJV8

Some of you will recognize this (again, this is OLDSCHOOL) and it will bring back some fond memories I'm sure (I know it did for me), but I'm sure most will not and will wonder wtf this is.
For those who don't know what this is, here's the wikipedia link:

Wish the YouTube video did this justice but unfortunately it doesn't. I'm seriously tempted to hook up one of the dinosaur P2's I've got sitting around, loading up DOS, and watching this the way it was meant to be seen.

Hah, I was playing Duke Nukem and DN2 at the time on my dads old Packard Bell 286.

I didn't get internet until much later, though :(

Oh and speaking of old-school (not quite back to 93, but still old), I actually found a video card box laying around the house that I never got rid of. Check this out

I ran a voo doo, somehow with a rage lt pro...
big BIG frame rates. :D
half life 1, unreal tournament.

the side band cable...

I started playing with the pc on a trs 80, in 1986 learned how to make a box, move it around...that was just 6 years before this video. things went very fast evolution...

big money to be had, if one had a brain to stiuck with it. (Look at steam today)

I fianlly got a p2, in '99, the dos stuff was dying fast. I clearly remember how upset I got over ram usage of even simple things.

I did keep it together making TCL scripts, very light. still use some today (the defrag analyze option in vista/7 is not there, I made a gui front end for example).. 5mb ram.

When I knew the 56k modem was out, I downloaded an all dos, bootdisk bootable, browser/mini-os that dialed out... less than 10mb of ram. That was 2000...
never seen again after win2k. I was with the right crowd apparently, I even got betas, xp in 2000...
the net exploded, I ended up as much a grunt as everyone else. that leet simple stuff.. is nothing but trouble makers apparently if to get together.

they call those hackers.

I am not one...and if I was...

didn't really do anythng but it was there

It would bump the CPU up by a couple MHz, although it had a negligible affect on performance.

A lot of modern BIOS's actually have a "turbo" function that increases the multiplier by 1, effectively giving the PC 166-200 extra MHz, depending on FSB/QPI/whatever the hell they call it now.

I see you my (not my pic but was exact box/card) Voodoo 5 5500 PCI 2 core SLI card
http://i724.photobucket.com/albums/ww245/sgt76/20042010113.jpg

Think this was one of or the first true dual core/SLI single card video cards. Used to play Diablo 3 and half life on my like think 300 or 500MHZ Athlon Crappaq. The little crappy case accumulated dust and killed the fans and overheated the Overclocked Voodoo card. That was the end of that. I got it from Gamestop back in the day on some ridonkulous deal that I found. AWESOME card back in the day when 3dfx was da balls!

So far I've got all this 3dfx Voodoo talk beat. Here's a pic (not of mine specifically) of the card I still have sitting in a box at my Dad's house (dual P200 box, originally had this card in a 486 box). The ORIGINAL... FIRST... Orchid 3dfx Voodoo card. I think I paid something like $400 or $500 for this thing back in the day, but damn did everyone crowd around my computer at camp that year and drool over Quake on this thing :D

Too bad I don't have my Diamond Monster 3D card box anymore, or my Diamond Stealth II S220 box. Those were the first 2 cards I ever bought :D
