Taking another look at it, I dunno why but it's seeming a bit squished. Perhaps design it to dynamically expand to screen size, or at least the background. I think it may be the black bars on either side causing the illusion of the smooshedness.

I have a widescreen monitor so it doesn't help when designing it. I have to keep in mind all resolutions.

dont let him get toooo carried away with the effects or it may detract from the actual information being displayed. My general rule of thumb is 'the simpler the better' ... but then again, im not a designer. just a coder. lol
