Swap is now complete. The guy who did kept on telling me how he couldnt get over how much "beefier" these gears were over the wrx's. Aside from the syncros needed to be broken in the car runs awsome. It may be the from fact that i havent drivin the car in over a month but i swear it accelerates faster. Unfortunately i wasnt able to get any pics of the lgt gears but if i can find some then I'll compare them to my wrx's old gears and post some pics.
Special thanks to www.flatironstuning.com (http://www.flatironstuning.com) , exerter subaru (wrxparts.com), and rang automotive.
Thinking about getting a plate that says frknscb, short for frankin scoobie where it's a wrx with a sti block and legacy transmission plus a ton of aftermarket parts. Yea/na?

Oh, I thought the license plate would mean, "fricken scoobie" every time you pass someone.

ok so i've noticed something with the shifter since the swap. in 4th gear the shifter will pull its self back about a quarter of an inch when stepping on the gas and moves back to the stationary spot when you take your foot of the gas. it doesn't slip or anything but it kinda freaked me out the first time i saw it. i wonder if its because gears 1 and 4 use a legacy syncro and the other gears use a wrx one.

Glad to hear it came out well. What was the final cost on parts for you?

$1,034 for the LGT parts, $1,059 for the wrx replacement parts

So if you don't mind me asking, all told what did it cost? And also did you pull the tranny and replace it yourself?

i looked at the tranny diagram and almost passed out so i had the guy who split the case do the work. the thing that really sucked was that the LGT kit diddn't come with instructions so you had to gess were things were going by looking at what parts were being swapped. All said and done it was $1,034 for the LGT parts, $1,059 for the wrx replacement parts and about $1,100 for labor. the wrx parts could have been less but i had to replace the barrings and syncros because of the metal that got everywhere from my gear busting.

How about LGT-ISH? lol.. Same thing with my Legacy.. I've got a JDM STi Version 8 6 speed tranny, USDM STi rear diff, an automatic Legacy 2.5i driveshaft, Spec B rear axles, and Frankensteined WRX/LGT front axles lol.. I'll just call it STi ish lol

Then I won't tell you what I've spent on mine, and I'm doing STi hubs. I still need to get around to picking up STi axles. Simple and cheap enough just haven't bothered yet.

STi hubs and axles won't fit on mine.. I have a set of JDM STi Version 8 axles if you're interested ;)

I'll be curious to see if it fails again. A large part of the wrx 5 speed's weakness is due to case flex.

From what i was told these gears are rated for around 350whp and i believe that case flex was incorperated into that. They do have aftermarket kits for the wrx to help strengthen the transmission case to prevent flex but from what i've read this has only been a problem with stock gears.

so i had a problem with shifting my car today. I was at the drag way tonight and when hitting around 6K the car would not shift into 3rd gear to save my life. it would only go in around 5k and if i reved it between switching gears. I dont know if it's because the syncros are still new or not but it sucked!

Oh crap man didn't realize that was you. Should've come and said something to the group of us that were up there.
Do you have any trans/engine mounts or shifter bushing upgrades done? Seems like the stockers wear quick on these cars which could've been causing the issue.

i saw some scoobies there but when i saw a nasioc fram on one i figured it wasnt the NES group. as for the parts they've all been upgraded. I had the guy who did the transmission job test it out and he had the same problem but then realized what it was. he said that like i, he tried doing a diagonal shift and it caused the shifter to hit a gear gate, preventing it to go in. He said that the transmission was very touchy and it needed to be centered and shifted streight up to get it into gear.

Sounds to me like you need to do a Trans Mount & some Shifter bushings

had the car retuned at synaptic 3 today and i was putting it into 3rd from 2nd at 6500rpm with no issues. i hate that i have to get it centerd before going into 3rd, it's a huge c**k block when your trying to do time trials. :unamused: on a good note the car is putting out around 340-350whp now at 20psi. Alex is goning to email me the graph with the actual power ratings soon. we also talked about possibly making a tmic with an intergrated NOS sprayer. Im tempted...
