Just aquired a nice (running) 02 Bugeye Wagon and have a complete swap set from an LL Bean H-6 (ez30d) on the way. It will be slow but i'll try to document.

Ha ha people.... And at least he's taking the easy route out with the EZ30D and also not building an entire car like me. He's been in the H6 shinanigan's before. Though that was an EG33...
Can't wait to see you finally moving on this Joe! Then we can do H6 photo shoots once mine is running!

The EZ complete with harness and accessories is from a 2001 Outback. Don't have it yet, but when it arrives i'll assess the quality of the strip down and either warn or recommend on the yard i'm getting it from. I've downloaded a few hundred PDFs from the Subaru Techincal site (they don't make it easy) For now I'm looking at how i'm going to work the harnessess. On a side note the WRX engine will go up for sale soon.

Whoa whoa whoa, you are taking out a WRX engine for this swap? Why not just start with rs/ts wagon, if you don't mind me asking? It just seems like you can make WAY more power a lot easier and a lot cheaper with the 2.0 turbo.

I was originally looking for a 02+ RS for the swap but I snapped up this Rex for a song. I'm 40 years old and have owned almost 40 cars and i've never liked the driving dynamics of a turbo'd engine. My goal is a nice satisfying GT rather than a rubber melting monster. It's all about the challenge :)

And the H6=Secks!
:D
Not as rough and wild as the R but still getting some. If you know what I mean. ;)
212hp with a constant torque curve is what's beautiful about the H6 motors. And if you happen to slap a turbo on it... Well all the better. The EZ30D has more than proven a plenty competent motor on it's own and with cams, intake, and exhaust there is no reason it can't be plenty fun and still not eat all the gas a H4 would.

I was leaning toward an ODB 1 Impreza with the EZ30Dr but between the rust issues and the price of an "R" setup up....along with the $$$$ of a Vipec i went the way i did. I would suck to make a sweet 95 only to watch New England take it away from you.

plus you can sell the WRX guts for some cheese to offset the cost of the 6

Word! Wish it was easier to recoup some of the money from OEM parts as easily on mine. :-/

I just did a Line by Line comparison of the 02 WRX and 01 EZ30 pinouts and they are remarkably the same....the only differences really coming with extra injectors / coils / 02 sensors......Are all ODBII cars this similar when it comes to the PinOuts? Should come in handy.

Change of plans....just picked up the non rusted 95 i've been searching for! WRX GOING UP FOR SALE....PROJECT CAR JUST LOST 500 lbs......easiest performance gain ever! Gonna simplify some OBD issues too

haven't picked it up yet....give me time. Its so basic compared to the Rex....but its light! Anyone know if the 94's had different dashes that the 95's?

98Wagoon
05-19-2010, 10:13 PM
I think the dash was the same until 98 if I recall. I know 98 was the big interior redesign year.

He's correct. 98 was the change year. 97' is kinda in between a bit but depends on year or build date and all that horse hooie.

Congrats on going with the lighter chassis. Gc's are my favorite, and rust free ones are so nice.

If you decide you want a standalone let me know. I've got a MegaSquirt2 here completely new. Was gonna go in the SVX but I really want my wagon finished. :o Any further ideas of running R heads? With or without AVCS. Single port just isn't very attractive at all...

3pt0RS
05-22-2010, 08:28 AM
I had my megasquirt half wired on my EG33 Conversion before i lost that one in the divorce. I Sold the squirt for $350. As fars as the EZ30r heads go...I'm gonna get this running first then let sickness take hold again :) Leaving to pick up my seats shortly.
