So i am bartering my time helping out at a friends shop, and getting this car. It needs to be put back togeather, but i am trying to figure out where to go with the car. This will probably mean that modding the SS will be put on the back burner for a while as i have wanted a little sports car again for a while now.

So anyone on here have experience with Fiats, and where i should go to get more information and maybe some ideas for making this into a fun weekend/auto-x/ track car?

BTW ill post some picks of the basket case later

Those were cool cars. Dual carbs? How is the body rot on the floors and rockers?

the floors and body have been gone over once already but im going to probably go over it again. I am thinking of running dual 40 IDFs and getting a vacuum advance distributor on it. But the outside is in primmor and body filler, and the interior is well in shambels. Im probably just going to go with some race seats and harnesses. I did get it to fire today and the engine sounds good. Now i just been to get the fuel pump working properly. But i am seeing this as a fun project to be done over the summer. I am hoping to have it road worthy by the time the CMC Loring AFB.

but sorry i forgot to take pictures of the basket case today. tomorrow ill have to take some

Midwest is probably the best place to get parts. Matt is a great guy.

Yeah i got running for a bit, but then found that one of the fuel lines was makeing a rather large puddle under the tank. So i need new fuel lines, and start on the body work asap. But first i need to finish the syncro, rabit 2.0 swap. and put a new 2.0 in another jetta that is part of the deal in my reciving the car.

btw this is how it looked this winter, which is basicly how it looks now

yeah i died a bit, sad that the wheels i want cost about as much as what im going to put into the rest of the car for now. The 40IDF i want are going to run me about 250-300 and the intake for them is another 400. then there is all the body work that needs to be done and probably a set of racing seats with harnesses. But i did see a parts coupe in RI for 300 that i want to go get, maybe use that interior for now and make the 2 into one and sell off the rest of the parts or keep them for spares

So i have been doing some research, and does anyone know how to boost a carborated car? I am really going back and forth on putting in 40IDFs or boosting it. I currently have a T4 and a Volvo side mount at my house as well as a spare brand new VF10 is i wanted to go liquid cooled. So anyone have some advice on how to boost a carbed car and if it would be possible to use the VF10 for more reliability.

^Rosster's is boosted

Boosting a carb'd car can be tricky. If you go with a blow thru you could wind up with an underhood sprinkler of the wrong type of fluid.

Man, the styling of that car is timeless.

The last car I remember carb'd and turbo'd was the 1979 Ford Mustang 2.3L It was a draw thu system.

yeah but the problems with draw thru is that if the turbo becomes to hot you can have detonation.

I'm very interested in how you are going to do this, keep us posted.

My first car was a 74 124 spyder. Spent way too much money on that car.

One thing to watch on the 74 is they came out with a system which would keep the car from starting if the seatbelts were not latched. There was a control box on the pass side kick panel and a wad of wires running under the dash that tied into lots of stuff. Always had some strange things that would pop up and stop the car from running.

The twin carbs I'm not sure on, I was talked into puting 40 DCNF carbs on mine and they never worked right. The IDF carbs might function better. The stock 34 was liveable with the stock motor. Change the cams (40/80 or so) and go to 9.8 pistons first thing then you'll need to worry about the carbs. The cams are a needed in the '74 engine. Or you could find an 80's 2.0 turbo spider parts car which would give you the turbo and FI and end up at about the same power. The bottom end is rock solid. After a bit of work mine would rev to 8 grand and make pretty noises.

Should make for a fun car either way.

Here's mine, It was my first year in Auto-x so they told me not to worry about having cams and different pistons in CSP :o
