ok so i have almost bald kumho escta mx tires on my rims right now and i love them. Only problem is I want something slightly cheaper (about $100 a tire) and with slightly longer tread life (kumhos are 220).
The rims are 7" wide and right now im running 215/45/17. Now i couldnt go larger on the old car with the GC body style those even rubbed. I have no rubbing now and thinking about going up to a 225/45/17.
tire im looking at right now is the Nitto NT NeoGen ZR

Kumho's are known for their ability to not perform well.
Why not pickup BFGoodrich G force KDW's.
those tires are pretty good. They arent too expensive.. i think like 130-150ish

Kumho's recent tires (XS, MX, etc) have been excellent -- right up there in grip and traction to the big boys of the tire world (RE11s, Z1s, AD08s.)
KDWs are showing their age, BFG hasn't refreshed them in years and it shows compared to newer tires.
My Suggestions:

GC's don't like wide tires, you can probably squeeze a 225/45 in there if the offset on the wheels are high (+45 or higher.) Just don't take my word on that.

General Exclaim UHP's are cheaper than $100 per tire and are a decent DD tire. Though they label them as 'Ultra High Performance' they don't compare well with a grippy, stiff-walled tire like high performance Bridgestones. I'm going on my third summer with mine. I know Murphy is going on his fourth (but could probably use some replacement). You won't have any issue running 225's on the 07. You could run 245's if you had a wheel wide enough to handle it.

Joey, I'm going to be running these in a 225/45/17..... They are currently 102.00 a piece shipped and have a $50.00 rebate additional on them. These are also the same tire Alex is running on his Supra. The reviews seem to be really good on them especially for the price of the tire.

I'd definately have to vote for the General Exclaim UHP's over anything made by Hancook.
Ran the General's on my Civic and I have to say that were damn good for the price.

sumitomo htr z II's are what i just put on my ride.
in your wanted size 22/45/17 they are 76$ each.
my total shipped was like $350 and i'm diggin em so far.
something useful: you can use the display filter for tire rack reviews to sort by car type. you can read reviews from subaru owners only. its a nice feature, hope that helps you out. click 'see all reviews'

I heard reviews of the sumotos not lasting as long and being noisy but other than that great. But what I WAS gonna get was Dunlop SP Sports which TireRack are doing a clearance on and I hear NOTHING BUT great!

Have you actually seen the review's on these evo's or just going by the name Hancook?? My guess would be just going by the name and not actually doing the proper research on them and compare them to the other tires in there class. Oh by the way the way these came in 2nd in the latest tire shoot out to the dunlop star specs out of something like 10 tires tested in there class :D. As far as the General go they personally are to much all seasonish and not enough performance base if i'm looking for a some what summer/sportier tire and are going ot have a little harder rubber compound to compare them to the OP previous tires being the Kuhmo Mx's. (just my .02)
Here's the shoot out link below.... The General's are not in it because pretty much all the other tire in the shoot out are a more aggressive tire so it's not really fair to judge them against each other :)

Tread patterns between the Hancook's you posted & the General's are nearly identical. Oh, and did I mention the General's based on survey results on TireRack are #4 out of 43 in the Ultra High Performance category.
As for stickyness, you know what they were like, they're the same ones I had on the Civic. Are they as sticky as the Dunlop SP FM901's were? No, but let's face it, we're not driving on a race track here.
Oh, and they're only $93 per tire.

The Evo's are $92 you dummy..... so they fall in the same price catagory. I personally liked your older Dunlops (FM901's) as your best tire to date that you've owned. (need to test your new Dunlops asap ) I think for a DD the General do a good job for the money but there is other tires that I would pick in that price range like the EVo's for me. I will say the General do perform well for a ugly looking tire, lol. You'll get to see alot of them this summer and see what they are like. Me, Joey, Chad and Alex(700+ HP supra, lol) will all be running them. I do want to put on your new Dunlops asap like i said and take some twisties to see how they compare to the 901's (I'm thinking they will do quite well for ya)
p.s. since we;re taking tire racks rankings: out of the 8 performance catagory's the Evo;s wins in 7 of the 8, it's only loss with in tread wear 7.8 vs 8.2 )stick out tongue, lol)

Fair enough. Ya the FM901's were by far the best (street) tire I think I've ever driven on. Sticky as hell & lastest FOREVER. 4.5 seasons is no joke (to those who don't know, yes, I drove on them in the snow 2 for 2 years lol).
I'm not expecting the new Dunlop's to be amazing, but we'll see. I think considering my suspension setup (or lack thereof) they'll do for now.

Yeah those tire were like something like $83.00 a piece or something crazy. you could stick your finger nail in the tread and leave a mark but yet they wore down like a tire with a 500 tread wear not the 200 or 180 that it really had, lol

They're a good DD tire, but if you push them hard in tight corners (like the ones in an autocross) you can tell they're an M&S tire. For that reason, they didn't find their way onto my RS a second time. For that exact reason they did find their way onto my Legacy, though.
If compare the shoulders of the two tires, the part that made the Generals feel mushy to me, the Hankook has much less gaps between the tread blocks. I haven't tried the Evo's, but I've heard excellent things from a variety of drivers -- hence my recommendation of them.

Im running nitto nt450's and I love them. ran them for half of last summer and put them back on a few weeks ago. no complaints from me. I bought them off discount tire direct and got the lifetime free replacement warranty. definitely worth it in my book.

I'm a pretty big fan of Toyo Proxes 4 (http://www.onlinetires.com/products/vehicle/tires/toyo/215%252F45-17+toyo+proxes+4+91w.html). Good wet traction, quiet rolling down the road, and great dry traction. They DO sacrifice a little dry traction to get the wet traction though. But for a DD, they're perfect.

Were the General's you had the Exclaim UHP's? That's what I had and they definitely weren't an M+S, nor did they feel like them (at all).

The Exclaim UHP is General Tire's Ultra High Performance Summer tire that was developed for the drivers of sports cars, coupes and sedans. While meeting minimum tread design standards to be "M+S" branded,
labeled on the side wall too M+S sir spanky :)

Lol guess I stand corrected. Definately don't remember that being on the sidewall, but I won't argue with what's in writing. :D
On a side note, these Dunlop's are friggin sticky, loud, and I think I can already see 1/32nd worn off in the 2 days they've been on the car rofl.

Like I said, didn't hate 'em, I just didn't enjoy them for true hard driving. They're great tires for spirited road driving or D.D. stuff. I'm making my recommendations for someone who is used to something like the Ecsta MX, and probably wouldn't prefer an all-season (like the Proxes 4) or M&S tires (like the Exclaim UHPs) but rather a true summer tire with solid tread blocks but a relatively good lifespan.
Whatever you do, don't get Goodyear Integrity's. Ewwwww...

As you might expect from looking at them -- very good.
It's starting to get hairy when the weather is bad on the beater Legacy, but that's only because the alignment wore the two that were in the front heavily, and I moved them to the rear this summer. They're excellent in the wet right up to the wear bars.

I'll agree with that. Mine are good to go for at least this summer/fall. A DD tire is about all they are. Definitely not for mud or snow, and not very good for autocross.

Proxies 4's are great in rain and dry, useless in snow. For price point I had Kumho ASx's and was satisfied with them. Worked well in the snow also, they just wore quick. (30,000 miles they were down to 4/32").
I'm waiting for someone to try the Dunlop SP Sport Sig's.
I am done with directional tires, they get noisy because of cupping and you cannot cross rotate them.
