Not sure which Whitelines they are, I'll have to do some research and get back to you. They look like a closed "S" of metal with the Whiteline signature yellow bushing in the center of the top and botttom. In all honesty, they could be beefier lol

STI IC and LGT Front brakes both purchased and going on soon. Also, I drank the special Kool-Aid and bought a used SSQV that I put on. I'll be running it in recirc mode because it's far too annoying to daily lol.

Also doing a photoshoot with Sanderson Designs coming up shortly, so look forward to some nice shots coming soon :)

How much bigger are the brakes? It looks like 3/4" or so. Did you notice a difference?

Psychoreo
05-24-2010, 11:11 AM
I forgot to take better pictures, but the LGT rotor alone completely covers the WRX rotor/bracket/caliper with some room to spare. It's something like a 13" rotor.

Brake feel is great but that could be from the fresh fluid as well. I've only gotten on them hard a couple times and it feels good. I'll have to wait until I can really get on them to feel for fade etc.

Bump for some quick updates. I've decided to go another direction as far as power mods go, selling my injectore (sold) and VF39. I'm going to give the motor an overhaul first. Pistons, seals, bearings. I've never done something like this, and possibly might pick up a second block that I can build up.

Anyway...... Who wants to trade me a 2.0l for my spare 2.2t :bacon:

Psychoreo
07-01-2010, 11:00 AM
So here's the plan.

Currently on the motor
-Gimmick Motor Sports After Maf hose
-Gimmick Motor Sports turbo inlet
-Samco intercooler y-pipe
-STI Intercooler
-COBB 3" Catted Downpipe
-Prodrive Round Tip Axle Back
-HKS SSQV
-COBB Accessport stage 2 tune @212hp, 220tq

Next steps
Build up the bottom end (Pistons/Rings, Bearings, Seals) What else should I plan on? Obviously once it's opened up what it needs will show.

DW650's

Turbo  not sure what I want to do here. Goal would be just shy of 300whp 290tq area. I don't want anything crazy, and I don't want to blow up my trans.

Thoughts?

yaya
07-01-2010, 11:20 AM
Oil Pump and headstuds for sure. Might consider rods if you're building a 2.0.

If those are your power goals, I'd look for something 16g or maybe 18g sized.

Psychoreo
07-01-2010, 11:54 AM

Jsc Speed has them in stock??

Another question. How do I find out the journal size? In all honesty I'm just browsing now so I can save up over the next couple months then have someone build it for me. I'm mechanically inclined but motor work is not something I'd want to do myself.

ACL Subaru EJ20/EJ22/EJ25 (Suits 52mm Journal Size) Standard Size High Performance w/ Extra Oil Clearance Rod Bearing Set (http://www.jscspeed.com/catalog/Subaru/02_07_WRX_STI/Engine_Internals/ACL_Engine_Bearings_for_02_05_Subaru_WRX_2_0L.html )

Anyone have a good link for pistons? Just looking for replacements unless forged isn't much more. I'll probably be selling my kidney anyway.......

AExiOn
07-01-2010, 12:21 PM
I dont know whats good for pistons, rods, etc.

I'd get a exedy stage 1 clutch sense your still on the 1st one lol
and stick with OEM head gaskets

I take it your also doing a TB and WP change during this build ;)

for turbo its up to you want you want really

If you want top end, check into the VF22, they are a common overlooked turbo, but can be laggy bottom end, but may be good for DD so your not boosting every where at 3.5k

Evo3 16G is nice for the 2.0

I dont think the HTA68 showed good numbers on the 2.0, I've only seen dyno charts off of 2.5 and hybrids

Get the ACL race ones!!! subimods have them

Berge56
07-01-2010, 12:28 PM
Good luck meng!

So do you have an idea as to who will build your motor?

Psychoreo
07-01-2010, 12:43 PM
Ya Art lol, I may just see how long this stocker can last. Maybe set a record

And Berge, no not yet. I honestly just started thinking of this today. I'll probably call Springfield Crank and Machine. They do so many motors up there it's crazy. I did a tour of their shop and the deck something like 20 subaru heads a week.

Psychoreo

Laggy turbo might save on gas but it'll probably be annoying to drive to work every day. It's a two mile hill all the way to work lol. When I leave, half the time I turn my car off and roll down the hill till I park lol

yaya
07-01-2010, 12:53 PM
Definitely get the ACL Race rod and main bearings. However, they've been out of stock most places for a couple months. If Subimods has them then that is awesome.

For pistons I'd look into Wiseco or CPs.

If I file a claim($500 deductible), they'll probably cut me a check for the stuff. My concern is that the AP is married to the car. Does that make the car married to the AP (I.E. A new one won't be able to read/write to it??)

I have no idea about the AP.. with the $500 deductible Im not sure how it would work.. I hate insurance companies. but the AP alone is over $500 so they SHOULD do something since it was several electronics. Id keep an eye on ebay/CL/forums for a random AP up for sale...

2.0 borred .020 over (clean up bore)
Cosworth bearrings
CP forged pistons
New OEM rods
Ballanced rotating assembly.

This'll be a winter/spring project so over the next 6 months I'll be sourcing the rest of the bits to put it all together.

11mm Oil pump
Water pump
Head studs
Reuse the stock heads/IM/etc

Some other bits I'm not settled on yet. We'll see as the project goes. Best part about this block? Didn't cost me a penny :)

I'm basically limited to $10 a month in discretionary funding (car, beer, etc.) so most hobbies are put on a massive hold. We'll see where the future takes us...

And ya hahah the turboback is an interesting one. We're actually not sure where it came from, but it's:

Bellmouth

2 pieces, 1 piece from DP to the axle, 1 piece axle back
JDM mad tyte angle axle back

Lil bit :)

JE pistons are being cleaned up, new bearings will be ordered this week. Need to drop the block halves off to be cleaned up (I'm lazy and don't really want to spend 8 hrs washing the damn thing.) Heads will be here soon after to be p&p'd with new springs/retainers and potentially cams....... maybe cams.....

Berge56
03-12-2011, 09:41 PM
:ohnoes: You spin a bearing mang? Who is doing the machine work?

Psychoreo
03-13-2011, 12:44 PM
no spun bearing, this is my back up block. Dissassembly is complete, initial inspection showed that one piston was missing the upper oil ring so good thing I pulled it apart. Also let's me verify what parts are in the block. Some corrections to what I thought before:

JE(not CP as I listed before) pistons
Cosworth bearings(not being reused, will replace with new)
New rings to be ordered
Stock rods are attached to the pistons, considering alternatives
Spare heads are being picked up to to be p&p'd with new valves/springs/retainers
Oil pump has "10" marked on it. Does this mean it's the 10mm pump? Regardless, I'll be ordering another along with the timing belt kit

Things I haven't decided on:
Cams
Turbo

Cams may put me out of my budget but if they're worth it I'll just extend the build.
For the turbo and for this being a daily driver I'm looking for 275-315wtq on efi's dyno. I put down 220 with just the stg 2 bits so I think this goal isn't too out of the reach of my wallet lol

Berge56
03-13-2011, 12:48 PM
Gotcha. So the second block is a 2.0 as well?

yaya
03-13-2011, 12:53 PM
Is this a 2.0 or a 2.5 block? With your power goals I don't think you should worry about cams. Unless you have a huge turbo that is going to make lots of topend power, then save your money.

Psychoreo
03-13-2011, 01:04 PM
Correct. Another 2.0, "bored .020." I put that in quotes because I haven't verified this yet. And no, no plans for a huge turbo, i'd like something that can hit full spool at or around 3300-3500

Berge56
03-13-2011, 01:05 PM
Then I def wouldn't bother with cams. It would be a waste of money as yaya said. :)

Figured out the issue. Somehow air pockets made it past the bleeder and into the rear calipers so when I went to bleed it, only fluid came out.

Took the caliper off, opened the bleeder, squished the piston back in and voila. Rock hard pedal.

Also finally got around to fixing the infamous squeaky seat belt issue and adjusted my parking brake.

For those of you that don't know, if your seat belt squeaks when you put it on there is a simple fix.

1. Remove the plastic trim covering the seat belt on the B pillar.
2. Remove the top half of the Styrofoam from the back side of this trim.
3. Use a sharp knife/razor blade to cut away the top horizontal molding mark. It runs all the way across and will likely have a ton of "dust" built up on it. This dust is from your seat belt rubbing on it and making that annoying ass squeak.
4. Re-install the trim and enjoy your squeak free seat belts.

Steps are simple.
1: Have crummy headlights
ewwwwwwwww.......

3(Optional): Wetsand the headlight with 1000 grit sand paper. You only need to do this part if your headlights really suck like mine did.

Put some foam between the bar and the AC line and you're good to go.

I'm hoping it comes with the bracket kit that lowers the AC lines, if not ill definitely put some foam to use.

Those look much better, PlastX owns! I used it on my headlights as well.
