Okay so my wrx has been in the dealership getting a new bottom end:unamused:.... And clutch/flywheel. before the car went in it made no weird noises. After it came out it started making a weird whirring noise. or like a rubbing.
the noise only occurs in gear... after i let off the gas.
Any gear, more noticeable at higher speeds and at a higher frequency at higher speeds. not louder just more repetitive. like something rubbing a drive shaft or something and the faster the shaft spins the more the sound happens.
It also sounds like the noise is coming from within something, like a transmission housing or whatnot.
I took it back to the dealership and they tried adjusting heat shields and what not but it did not work. im bringing the car back tomorrow because the noise is getting much louder and it is definitely not right. Im just wondering if you guys know or have heard of this problem before? could it have been a mess up on the clutch install? ?? :(

i did bring it back im just wondering if anyone knows or has heard of this problem before. because i can tell they dont want to rip into it again and are blaming it on heat shields and the aftermarket parts sounding different than stock. Its not that, im a car enthusiast, i know a normal sound from a bad sound. so im just wondering if anyone could pinpoint it for me and then i could tell them what i was told.

Hey I have a sound that my 07 fozz has had for the last 30kmi. When I let off the gas I hear a muffed chatter/whirrling sound or something, only happens in gear and kinda goes away when I hit the clutch. Only hear it when coasting or using gears to slow down. Been doing with for about a year now. Not sure where its coming from. I believe its could be an exhaust manifestation. Its not gotten any worse.

I get the same thing every now and again. Mostly in second gear, and seems to depend on the weather (and how long I've run the car). Sounds like either a throwout bearing, or maybe just a noisy second gear. *shrug*, I wouldn't worry too much about it until something breaks, in my opinion.

Like i said, mine had that noise for a year w/o issue. At 105,000 now.

My second gear has always been very winey. Sounds like the syncro's or something to me. Don't sweat it till you here a bang then it's upgrade time :)

For what it's worth, that sounds similar to a car I test drove before buying my 2.5 - I had it inspected by a dealership and they said it was coming from the tranny but of course they'd need to tear it apart to find out what it actually was. Check to see how long the warranty is on the repairs they made and either ride it out for a while or take it in immediately. I'd actually do it sooner rather than later so it can't be 'blamed' on something you did.
