View Full Version : 09 WRX bounces over bumps

This winter my car was starting to "bounce" and rattle when I went over bumps, and has gotten worse to the point where even if I go over a little bump the front left of the car will bounce. If I go over a bump during a turn, the bouncing will cause the car to somewhat lose control too.
My car only has 23K on it, is it normal for this to happen with this kind of mileage? I don't do anything that unusual with my car, I don't offroad with it and I avoid potholes whenever I can, although I have hit a few nasty ones.
Is this something that is covered under the manufacturers warranty as well? I want to bring it to the dealer but not if they will charge me to look and/or fix it.
Thanks!

It sounds like a strut went bad.
Try going outside and push down hard a few times on each corner to really get the car bouncing, then let go. If you let go right as you push down, the car should come back up and stop, maybe up a bit further past rest and back down. If they're bad, it'll come up a lot, and back down to resting position.
Compare all the corners and it should be easy to tell if one went bad.

Thanks, I'll give it a try!

Well, back from the dealer and they confirmed that I need a new front left strut, and the two rear struts are leaking so they are going to replace those as well, all under warranty. I'm just waiting to hear back from them on when I can come in and have the service done.
I just wish the front right was damaged as well so I would get all 4 struts replaced, lol

Try real hard to get them to replace the last one as well, because I had my front right strut replaced at like 40k and now its really hard to get a 100% alignment on my vehicle. I didn't think it would matter that much as they were still the same old springs, but for whatever reason the car still pulls even right after an alignment and re-alignment to try and fix it.
Just sayin!

 yeah i forgot that macphearson struts were setup totally differently on different vehicles :spin:
Well hey, might as well try to get a free strut anyhow!!! But yeah I don't think there will be much luck with that :(

yeah, 4 new would be good. he could just go back if it drives funny, and get it taken care of perhaps.

Or maybe I'll just hit a few potholes on the right side to blow that strut before they replace the other 3 :D
