Starting to research some bigger better rims... not to familiar with what will fit and whatnot... saw a bunch of threads with a bazillion numbers and tire sizes, but didnt feel like spending 1758493 hours trying to find a simple answer...
2005 wrx (5x100)... how big of a rim (width) can i go before rubbing becomes an issue?! looking at upgrading to 18s... didnt know if i can get away with 18x8.5 or if i should stay with more of a 18x7.... any and all input would be wonderful! lol. thanks... and if i can get away with a wider rim, how much work would be involved to make it work.
Something to factor in. what type of suspension are you on? factory? after market? what are you willing to do? you can run bigger rims with a simple roll of your fenders. Another thing to consider is offset. and 18x8 +15 might give you issues, while an 18x8 +45 will fit no problems. i dont know much about the older models, but usually and 18x8 with a +45 to +50 offset will clear with little to no issues.

According to my searching, with a wrx sedan you can put a 18x10 30mm offset. (which is crazy) But, you will have to roll your fenders, definatley. And tires you will need to get a 255-265 tire. Which is expensive.
If i were you, just get a 18x8, 48mm offset. its a popular tuner size and the tires arent expensive.
Check out tirerack and enter your car info for some possibilities, or even wheeldude.com
edit: read what joe wrote and you have to take that into consideration as well. Also, if you go with coilovers you can usually go with a wider wheel. Because of camber adjustments and the springs being narrower, allowing for wider wheel.

thanks guys... im bout to order tein coilovers. just the basic streets... but def doin that b4 rims. still got a few pennies to save first. i dont want to do anythin crazy wide, just dont want to catch fender or hit frame rail when turning ya know... (ex-civic owner) lol!
i've gotta 2005 WRX on Tanabe springs - i put on 18X8 with a 43mm offset - had to roll the quarters - definite rubbing issues - didn't have to touch the fenders but when I cut into a deep corner with my wheel cocked all the way - there is a slight scrape, but i think it's one of the screws for my RallyArmor flaps
i put on a 225/45 and it rides awesome - corner's great with NO sacrifice to comfort - ENJOY!
