Pin It To Win It

TEAM: Pin It To Win It is based out of Central Massachusetts and competes all over New England in all different rally associations. We're a grassroots privateer team that has a deep love for rallying and of course rallying in a Subaru. We consist of 3 friends that met through local auto crosses with a group of friends that support us with extra hands when needed.
Well seeing how after 10 long months of building the car with whatever scrap cash I had laying around we finally are off on our Rally adventure. Our madien staged event was this past January at the Winter Rally New York event. We faced what was expected, snow and ice. Lots of ice.
For a complete story with plenty of pics: http://pinittowinit.wordpress.com/2010/01/26/

Now after getting a taste we're not looking back. Since that rally we have regrouped, rebuilt the car and looking to capitalize on what we learned in the January event and take it to the tarmac in Rally New York USA 2010 April 16-17th.

Awesome story.
I was glad to see "studded snows".. this is a case of common sense needing them. Helped put that car in a good place. Rally America (?) doesn't even allow them..
couldn't imagine.
I need them to drive on maine roads some seasons. with ten gears to choose from, and 3 rear end modes... :unamused:
I like the down to earth writing... it proves a subaru more than ever.

^Thanks, I appreciate the comments and I'm glad you like it.
Yes, USRC Winter Rally New york was the first American rally to allow studs. They were regulated to DOT 3mm studs but proved to be invaluable do to the conditions we faced. They even shut down local roads on day 2 of the rally for the fact that it was too slick and sleeting. Of course we rallied on :)
Check the blog and keep up with us on Facebook. We'll be updating it a lot in the next two weeks as we get closer to Rally New York USA.
We're also trying to make up some Team swag !!!

There is a video on the "video" page of the BLOG from our first event ever. It's a complitation that a spectator was nice enough to put together for us. There are some hill climb videos from last year as well.
I remember seeing this car back last september at the EFI meet. Nice write up!
Thanks! She was there, right before she got her custom exhaust put on :D

6th overall is great! Is that better or worse than you expected?

^we took 4th overall last event but unfortunetly we were given a 3 minute penalty that was hard to swallow before actual racing even started. Without that we would've finished 4th overall again...

This past weekend we participated in the second round of theUnited States Rally Championship at Rally New York USA. Coming off our unexpected podium finish in the winter rally in January we tried to get our heads out of the clouds and realize that miracles can happen and everyone once in a while gets lucky. We composed ourselves for the next challenge, high speed tarmac on the technical roads of Walton/Monticello New York.
We departed Thursday morning from our home base, giving ourselves enough time to tech, sticker the car and run through the days recce. With our chicken scratch in our notes, car all jazzed up with numbers we were ready for Fridays competition.
Friday started off rough as we incurred a 3 minute penalty, which we protested to no avail, giving us a very tough disadvantage. There was a confusion that wasn’t settled between the stewards and the seeded starting list. With that behind us, we erased that from out thoughts and focused on driving. We set up camp for the day in Monticello’s service park and got ready for the 6 stages of the day.

http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m42/Tbagger_photos/25765_529320111131_4000070_31304141.jpg
After two stages the rain started to come down. We moved up one spot, subtracting the 3 minute penalty, to 5th overall. As the rain came down, along with the lack of true rain tires, we slipped a spot back to sixth overall and ending the day. We managed to keep the car in one peice, but a miss shift at 115+ MPH, or what we think is the culprit, cost us reverse. The upside was you don’t need reverse in rally unless you spin so we needed to keep our nose clean for the Saturdays 12 stages.

With a bright and early start to Saturdays action we found ourselves on the fastest stages of the event in the Mountains of Walton New York. It would consist of three different chunks totalling 84 miles each, making for a very long day in the car. The roads were warming up in the early sun and the straights warranted speeds +/- 125 MPH for us. The views were fantastic and the weather seemed to change like the wind. We did not just experience stints of sunshine but also a drizzle, a hail storm and periods of snow throughout the day making speed and braking choices a bit difficult.
Taking a few stages to wake up, and with some luck, we found ourselves back to 5th overall and set the 4th fastest time on stage 8. The glory would be short lived as we ran into a moment on stage 9 that would cost us some seconds but kept our 5th place for the next few stages. After settleing into a groove and regrouping we continued to chug along batteling with Bill Petrow, trading stages which would continue to the end of the event.
As the day came to a close we managed to set the 2nd fastest times on SS15, SS16 and SS17 to finish up a fantastic event! Even with the 3 minute penalty we took 6th overall and even more rewarding was a 3rd place in Saturdays regional scoring!

We would like to thank our supporters; EFI Logics for keeping the car running like a top and Voodoo Graphics (Sunshine Sign) for working with a short deadline to re-wrap the replaced parts from the last event. We’d also like to thank all our fans who follow our progress through our first year of rallying, we like to hear feedback and hang it sideways for you!
Lastly we’d like to thank our families and close friends who not only put up with us but help out whenever, wherever possible! We would not be here without you!
Our next event is tentatively New England Forest Rally where we will be competing in Rally America’s format against the big boys July 16-17th in Bethel Maine.

The car will be taken apart throughout this week. She'll spend some time up on jackstands as we take apart the suspension for regreasing and work on the tranny since we lost reverse. We'll also be taking the bumpers and all off to give the car a proper cleaning to keep her so fresh and so clean.
We'll also be fabbin' up some underbody protection in light of how harsh NEFR is on the car.
We're also looking at events and practice areanas to get some more seat time in on gravel!
Stay tuned for naked pictures of the car

^Thanks, we're very happy with our results given that this is our first year on the stages!!
The car is restricted of course but EFI Logics was able to tune the car for max boost and torque so low on the RPM's that she's just a monster out of corners!!
I'll have some new pics up this weekend hopefully as we tare her down and pretty her up.
