1. Will an sti im fit?

2. IMO, pnp/coated stock headers are a waste of money.

Ok then, really like your car, it's just like mine! Any suspension or brake upgrades planned before the swap? Oh and... MOAR PICS!!!

suspension will probably be pieced together while Im losing my damn mind buying engine parts  I have a problem with if I buy something, it needs to go on NOW.. not stare at it.. so I get antsy.. my plan is tentatively KYB/AGX with a lowering spring of some kind. 22mmFSB and a 25mmRSB with better endlinks and such. Im thinking of a rear tower bar with quick releases and some kind of front tower bar. probably cusco or tein. Im kind of torn on the PnP on the stock headers. Kris (04wagoon/brother) sent his out and they came out great. for brakes, Gaddis has a set of 02 WRX rear axles/hubs/brakes, so those are getting dropped into the rear. for the fronts I'll find a set of wrx discs/calipers and do that swap. for the IM fitment.. honestly.. no idea as of right now .. this is going to be a learn as I go. thats why I want to make sure the engine is 100% before I go swapping.. haha

yeah. Im just going to attack it and at least make it.. less.. horrible... I did price out OEM inner/outer rear fenders. for the 3 I'll need it'll be like.. 700-800.. then install.. then paint.. :unamused: easy 3k.. if I can at least get it under control til I have that kind of skrill laying around Ill be content..

And yeah we'll find a day to get set to clear back the wall of parts and get all that out.

As for the fenders the inners should be fine still. Those outers I be we could steal widebody easily. Mix and match steal work with some fender flares. Sound like an idea?

it will have to be discussed. I dont want to go for it and then have it look all pieced together. or have my car looking like it has fat hips  for the time being Im definitely just going to make the rust look less horrible. :unamused:

well. I think the rain is going to hinder me attacking the rust on friday like I planned. hopefully its clear and I can give it hell.or at least try too..

Im going to have to arm wrestle 04wagoon so he brings me his dremel so I can take off my roof rack. the screws for the crossbars are all stripped (from my vain attempts at taking them off last year). so Im gonna get violent with it!!

project #12 for friday is finding someone that will put my header on. Im not allowed to work on my car at my apartment or I get heckled by the scumbags that work there :bull:. Skips exhaust is right near my apartment and Ive heard a lot of good things about that place. maybe thursday I'll throw the header and everything in the back and stop in and talk too him about it. its pretty sad I cant do something with 6 bolts by myself  but no jack/stands and the inevitable concern of needing a torch to get the header bolts/studs off makes me not want to do it myself..

oh well.. we'll see what happens?

squeethebee
03-24-2010, 04:15 AM
You wont need a torch if you can get ahold of an impact, air or electric, it usually pulles the old stud out with it too!

gonna be raiding plaistow tomorrow getting a bunch of s*** done.. wheels are first. need to be rebalanced cuz I notced 2 weights missing.. kind of missed out on the header today. yr ramps were too tall for my car so I jacked it up and put it on stands.. started, got 5 bolts out.. then of course the last one... stripped the nut.. :unamused:.. so Im not sure where to go cuz of that. its a header bolt, too.. of course.. might talk to the stealership and skips exhaust while Im running around.. Im feel quite unlucky. :(

fortunately I blew off some steam doing some shooting.. Im gonna stop at jiffy lube and see how much they'll charge me to flush my tranny and diffs. I want to get it done before summer.

so tomorrow.. defintely wheels going on.. possibly tranny and diff flush.. and MAYBE getting the header on. might talk to the stealership and work a deal for the header and perrin crank pulley  I dunno..

98Wagoon
03-29-2010, 03:06 AM
alright. header will hopefully get sold.. Im still mad at it, anyway.....

I bought a Momo shift knob for an automatic at the dealership. got to name my price on it.. I won.. haha. it looks soooo good.. except for at the moment its on my back seat..... I managed to remove the big ugly shifter my 98 came with.. and even managed to disable the lock so I can use it without the button (oops...) but of course..... my shaft is too thick for the hole..... so Im going to bring it to my local gun shop (cuz Im friends with the armorer/gunsmith) and Im going to use his drillpress to bore it out ever so slightly.. then I will apply some epoxy to seal it on there..

pics of this debacle will quite possibly show up soon!

and of the super secret addition I picked up from North Ursalia......

got my STI fuel pump in the mail last week from the bigdwright.. maybe while I'm bored this week I'll toss it in. last friday I met up with Jake and got the ball rolling on the ej205. caaaant wait!

I sent a few pm's on rs25 for some crap for sale to get my interior... well.. less 1998ish.. theres a vendor on there that does door card overlays that look great and are real cheap. I asked for a few samples of his different grey colors for my doorcards. also found a guy on there in boston with a set of 07 2.5i front seats. just the kind I want for super cheap. so hopefully this week I may have some good interior mods to post up!

He wants a seperate one built that'll handle the power. I linked him to IPT. that's who the LGT guys use to auto builds. They see them holding 400whp if you go looking at their builds.
And I HAVE my engine. Had it since 2008. I'm just building a whole car... I shoulda just planned for it from the start.

I was gonna disagree but... I'm not typically gentle . I want the ipt trans for peace of mind. I do a LOT of driving so I'd rather keep it 4eat. Plus I'll have a 45 minute commute to work on the highway si it'll help then, also. My biggest reason is its cheaper than a 5 or 6mt swap, also. And tbh, all the "waaahhh autotragic" comments will make me rofl when I'm hiding a stg3 ej205 in it.... I was debating whether to put the wrx engine in before I get the new trans. But I might just put it off the few extra months to just do it all at once. I don't feel like getting the motor in, everything bolted down and running, then a few months later have to rip it all out again..

Well, you don't have to pull the motor out to do a tranny, so I'd say run it as close to stock power levels as you can just to work out any kinks you may encounter.

I definitely want to run low boost at first just to make sure everythings working smooth and properly. And to give it some break-in time since jake did pretty much rebuild the whole engine.. I suppose my 4eat can handle a few months of driving as long as I'm not heinously abusing it.. Like the dirty little girl she is haha. For whatever reason I thought you had to pop the engine out to get to the trans. If that's not the case that will make me a happy panda..

Nice wagon!

Don't know where you were at with the PnP header... sounds like you ditched it... which I'd be glad of if you were using it on a turbo setup, as porting a stock header (polishing, removing a bunch of material from it, in general increasing the runner diameter) isn't always a great way to go. Without going into too much fluid dynamics, it ruins your spool up with not much of a gain up top to make it worth it. Lots of people have conflicting views on this, some people swear by pnp stuff, but specifically for the manifold to the turbine I've seen too many situations where the power is ruined by an overzealous port job, and there is science to back that fact up. I know plenty of people claim credentials on here and well at the end of the day it's just the internet, but for what it's worth I'm a mechanical engineer at a pretty big automotive supplier and I've been designing parts for Subaru turbo systems for a pretty big aftermarket supplier (who I can't name due to a non-disclosure agreement.)

I'm sure you've seen plenty of claims for gains from PnP, and I don't doubt that its POSSIBLE... but for the most part... on stock parts it is going to hurt more than it helps. If you want a more in-depth explanation, feel free to PM me as I hate pasting giant novels of technical info on forums.

Aside from that... WAGONS FTW!!!

Seraphinwolf
04-16-2010, 09:48 PM
Yes Wagons FTW! I talked him out of the PnP. Even if you saw any real gains it just isn't worth the cost vs. Projected gains

98Wagoon
04-16-2010, 10:16 PM
yeah.. Im still really torn. it seems like its the best idea and theres claims for quicker spool. but when I look into theres always the situation you describe. enough people have had good horsepowers on the stock manifold/xpipe that I may just use the stockers I have and hope for the best :dunno:

worst case, I figure if I dont like it.. I'll suck it up and buy a nice uel header from somewhere later on.

thanks for the input!

yeah. I did the math.. and by math... I mean I went to grimmmmmmspeeed and just added everything to a cart. it was about what I was paying for the motor itself just to pnp/ceramic coat the exhaust and IM. I think I'll just spray bomb or wrinkle finish the exhaust manifold I have. leave the xpipe alone. and since theres no heat shield, I think I'll send the UP to get ceramic coated. just because I dont want too much radiant heat warming my right bank. may just suck it up and wrap it just to keep temps low. I'll have to find a place to put that extra cash.. and NOT in yr pocket you greedy bastid!

Ceramic coating the outside sounds pretty good. Wrapping is good too, but it will reduce the life of the part: the contained heat will compromise the steel overtime in addition to corrosion issues, but if you are okay with that then it works really well to keep underhood temps down and exhaust gas temp up. But the integrity issues ARE real.

I'd suggest ceramic coating. The coating will come off eventually but it works pretty well.

ohhh the mighty conudrum..

I think I'll ceramic coat at least the uppipe. I just dont like heat wrap.. not sure what is it about it.. but its just ugly..might PnP the intake manifold and have that ceramic coated, also. at least thats ONE place where more air cant hurt.. (right? haha) and also phenolic spacers.

so the more I look at gc's with roof vents.. Im starting to want one.. I kind of always did, though.. they have them on primitive racings site for $89. or a scoop/vent combo for $180.. all I have to do is chop a hole in my roof!

I was putting a lot of consideration into doing an RS sunroof.. but theres something smexy about a functioning roof vent..

any thoughts? well.. for the 3 people who might pass through here...

unless you plan on having this be a dedicated racecar it wouldn't be my taste

Functionality does not dictate purposefulness imo - for example, a gigantic carbon fiber GT jet wing on a grocery getter civic. While wind tunnels and professional racing have PROVED the functionality of such wings, its purposefulness on the vehicle is questionable.

In that regard, I'd probably be more inclined to stick with your original sunroof idea!!

because really, you can get air in through a sunroof but you can't stand up and throw eggs at people through a roof vent

98Wagoon
04-20-2010, 09:18 AM
true.. it'll be mostly a DD. the only real trouble would be finding a working RS sunroof and getting it wired/installed as opposed to just a manual operated vent. its definitely going to be one of those "really? you did that?" type deals either way when one or the other is done. but I really have entirely too much desire to cut a hole in my roof

butt dyno says agrees that you can tell its doing its job. you can see how much less the engine moves. and less rotational torque is still less rotational torque. its a lot like a lightened crank pulley or flywheel. I think its worth it. especially when coupled with an LWCP or flywheel and engine/tranny mounts. anything to help get the most power to the wheels themselves is always worth the try. its like having your intake manifold ported and polished and adding phenolic spacers. some say its useless, some say every little bit helps.

so after talking to mr apkarian the other day about the cause to all my rusty troubles is the little rubber fender well liner.. thingys.. I decided they were to be removed. the drivers side came off fine.

but when I went to remove the passenger side fender thing... it um.. well... took quite a bit of my fender with it.. :hide:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v449/mrangerroy/IMG00426.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v449/mrangerroy/IMG00427.jpg

I believe this falls into the FML category.. theres quite a bit of previous bondo Im finding on the passenger side. probably from the crash Ive decided my car was in at some point.... I think between the bondo and the rubber liner thats why the passenger side magically went from perfect when I bought it to what it is now. Im not even sure if cutting a new piece of metal and welding it in will fix this.. Ive priced out new fenders.. its gonna be a good 2k or so to have it all done.. I'll be saving up. I want a full repaint done someday anyway, so Im going to grind/sand/patch however I can this fender. the door sil area (cant think of what its called right now.. the part you put sideskirts over ) anyway.. thats rusted through. so Im going to use 04wagoons dremel and cut that section out and seal it up. then cover the hole with RS sideskirts..

these are the plans for the body. hopefully once the swap is done, I'll save up for this stuff and get it done..

I'm not sure if waiting for you is such a good idea  jkjk

the best part about my passengers side is you can see where they already bondo'd the damn thing. inside the door, on the fender well, I apparently took too aggressive of a corner at some point and the bondo in there cracked :unamused:

the only problem I have with widebody, is I'll have to space my wheels. and i dont like that idea haha..

we'll see.. for the time being, I have to have myself a chat with mr Subaru_Crazy about his RS seats to get the busted ass OBS ones out..!

Seraphinwolf

We'll see. I'm looking more into it right now. I'd like to see about getting the rear done at some point soon rather than having to run the fender flares. Speaking of, have you thought of those as an option? They'd hide any dirty work pretty well.

98Wagoon
05-02-2010, 12:51 AM
Yeah, I have. But I want to keep it kind of smooooth. I think I'll just clean the fender up and hopefully seal it better than they did for the time being and then when everything else is done make the big bosywork decision.

hahahaha. he thought it was going to be plugnplay with his FXT. put it in, went for a test ride and he got all the inevitable CEL's and cruise control blinking etc.. he thought it blew his turbo up

as for progress ehh.. not really. I'll be getting the engine from jake soon (only 2 payments left haha) and then I'll stare at it and try to decide if I should just do full internals now while the engine is out, or not do them.. lets just say Im leaning towards sucking it up and ordering some bits from crawford soon.. the cams will go out to delta at some point, also. a 1500 grind would suffice, I think..

ANYWAY.. the first thing I think Im going to do before the swap, because it will actually make the swap easier in the long run, is a 5mt swap.. I know I really want to do the built 4eat to make the DD aspect of this easier.. but.. 04Wagoon and I are going to picking up another car to run as a DD anyway.. so no point in keeping this auto, and it'll be easier for the wiring harness merge and such later on..

squeethebee
05-20-2010, 03:17 AM
I'd say stock internals, but pick up a 2.5 down the line and build that. Prices are essentially the same for aftermarket forged things, but the extra tq you get from the extra .5 litres will make you **** bricks.

98Wagoon
05-20-2010, 03:30 AM
true. I was kinda thinking that. I know if I do the 2.0 properly it'll still get plenty of horsepowers and still be reliable. my only concern is if I do the cams will I be more likely to spin a bearing.. or should I just do bearings while Im doing the cams anyway..?

Seraphinwolf
05-20-2010, 05:17 AM

so I managed to finally get a decent read on my mpg's now that the knock sensor is new and my car is happy again. I refilled 14.5 gallons the other day at 415miles. back up in the 28mpg's area again. soo much better than it running like hell like it was.. I wasnt exactly gentle during that 415 miles. so Im pretty sure if I was actually babying the car I could be in the 30+ range pretty easy. this makes me a happy wagoon. :D

Ive decided that on friday or perhaps saturday Im going to go after my catback install again. or, well... by myself. haha. Unless someones around the Medway/bellingham, Ma area those days and are much better at working on cars than me...

my plan, RTV! and probably drilling/dremeling the bolts out of the header/collector type thing because Im preeeeeetty sure 12 years and 112,000 miles has caused them to not want to agree with wrenches... Ive got a new donut gasket for the front. then I'll use the ****ty regular gasket I have and RTV both sides. then do the same midpipe to axleback. it SHOULD work. haha.

installed my little venty things under the directionals finally. managed to paint them the same slate silver as the bumper so they look smexy. also painted the grille to match because the dull black was boring. Im going to two-tone it soon, though. better pics of it will of course appear eventually.

also, swapped catbacks with Chris (Apkarian100) because he wanted stock, and I wanted noise.. and, mostly.. because I needed a mid-pipe.. and I think we were just really ****ing bored  its an N1 paintcan/melon shooter. hopefully it will only be a week or two before I get the high flow cat and Prodrive on, now.

it actually looks kind of normal sized in that pic, but having noise coming out of the back of my car finally is making me want the prodrive even more.. I was thinking, since its technically a wrx/sti axleback.. the sti midpipe I didnt know I have may (should?) line right up to it, so all I'd need is the front flange cut/rotated to match the cat?

apkarian100
06-21-2010, 09:24 PM
I still think you'll need to space the STI midpipe out to fit. STI midpipes are the same length as WRX midpipes. Take a look at Supers adapters to give you an idea of how much space you'll have to make up:

http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/ii189/Mitkian/MS3%20Customs/DSC00805.jpg

That midpipe was custom fit to bolt up to my stock catpipe, and even then I had to add real metal flanges to half of the "fugibond" flanges I had on my exhaust system.it actually looks kind of normal sized in that pic, but having noise coming out of the back of my car finally is making me want the prodrive even more.. I was thinking, since its technically a wrx/sti axleback.. the sti midpipe I didnt know I have may (should?) line right up to it, so all I'd need is the front flange cut/rotated to match the cat?

just have a few parts left to pic up that were straggling and I'll be ready to start putting it together, methinks.. Im going to send the intake manifold and TGVs to grimmspeed. tgv's already got PNP'd. IM is going to get the pnp and ceramic coating and I'll also have them ship out some 8mm phenolic spacers. cams will go out eventually for a 1500 grind, also.

Im all giddy.. haha. pics will occur when its light out again. I feel like Im finally getting somewhere with this build.. Jake has a wrx dash swap I think Im going to get off him, also.. then my wiring harness swap would literally be only a few wires to merge. soooo the exhaust leak is pretty epic because Ive got a head stud pretty well STUCK the hell in the head... need to clear that bastard out and out a proper bolt in.. I had an STI midpipe sitting around in the garage and had Jake modify the DP end to mate up to my high flow cat pipe. Im going to be picking it up friday and get some new gaskets while Im out and about. Im thinking its FINALLY time to put my Prodrive on

other than that no real news. hopefully a good pic update friday or saturday from the exhaust install... now that all the bolts have been out once I think it should all come apart pretty easily for me when I go to do this. I havent quite decided how Im going to work this busted stud, thing.. Im thinking of I dremel two sides flat, I can use vice-grips and get a slightly better grip on it? worst case Im thinking I may dremel it flat, and start reeeaalll small and drill it out? 98Wagoon
07-19-2010, 10:24 AM
I had my uncle mix up a few cans of paint from my code and make spray bombs (he owns an auto paint supply company) it doesnt look like a perfect match because of the angle of the door/skirts. but its actually dead on. I cleaned, scuffed, and degreased the skirts before giving them a grey primer base. then a few good coats of paint. I could have done a better job but... they're just sideskirts..

no no.. the clocking was slightly off on the sti midpipe that I had extended so the whole exhaust is actually twisted and the center hanger cant be used and its causing the midpipe to hang low.. the REAL fix is to buy a coupler and two clamps and take the sawzall, snipe the midpipe, let it settle into its proper clocking/position, then stick the coupler on with the clamps. I just havent had time to do it since Ive been working so damn much lately.

squeethebee

98Wagoon
07-26-2010, 04:09 AM
I dont know the actual degree of it, tbh. you can see the end that was modded in one of my pics thats kind of an up close of the cat pipe. its not a big deal, really. just a quick cut and slide the coupler on.. I just have to check what size pipe the midpipe is.... (stock 05 sti.. 2.75?) I made an entire exhaust on one of my old cars by using couplers, pipes, and exhaust clamps so I trust them enough

still on the stand. 2 cams sitting in my room, 2 still on the damn engine. only real thing happening any time soon is I'm going to put some oem pads up front tomorrow at some point.. I hope..

only real update is Ive opened my savings account and I'm going to start saving for the internals. I still need to get my exhaust fixed but jake is MIA. which sucks, since he has my dash swap I want to pick up.. and my TGV's... and my throttle body.... Im kind of at a stand-still. hopefully I ACTUALLY save like I told myself I would and I end can get the internals sooner than later..

As fr savings, I can best suggest an auto withdrawal from you checking and make it as hard as possible for you to get to you saving or even see it on short notices. That's what happens to all of mine. I see deal, i see money, I spend money on said deal...

Sooooooooooo my motorcycle no one really knew I had is going to be going up for sale, soon. this is kind of bittersweet because I really like it, but its not very practical in my current situation (no where to store it, nowhere to ride it). it is, however, worth about $6k, and that $6k (or whatever I get for it) is going to go to brand new inner and outer rear quarter panels, possibly brand new front fenders, and a full repaint. its basically the only way to fix my quarter panels in the rear, now. no amount of cutting and welding can fix the passenger side. and anything left over, though I dont expect much to be left over tbh.. will go into my savings account and just get added to the "parts money"..

pic of my bike no one knew I had...

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v449/mrangerroy/IMG00096.jpg

its a 1970 CJ750 m1s (Chang Jiang 750 m1super)

basically, a copy of a copy of the 1939 BMW. the bikes have a really cool history, and the damn thing runs like a champ.. something about those boxer engines...

I always wanted a cafe bike and this was a cheap way to do it. I really want to find a Norton Commando, thats my dream bike.

98Wagoon
08-08-2010, 03:30 AM
first bike I ever rode was my uncle's '69 Norton Commando 750  I helped him rebuild it from the frame for a few summers and we finished it when I was 13 or 14 (dont remember which ) and he handed me the key and said if I could start it, I could ride it.. Ive never been so scared in my life......

truf. if or when I get another classic bike (after I regret for the rest of my life selling the CJ, that is) I think Im going to hunt down a Triumph Bonneville or a Norton Commando. they're just amazing.. though, thats mostly because I know I could never afford a Vincent Black Shadow... :hide:

98Wagoon
08-08-2010, 04:19 AM
pretty much

the worst part is my CJ hasnt needed THAT much money thrown at it. a good stint at my dads house getting some things touched up and its pretty much good as new. havent really even had to drop much money into it. the wagon, on the other hand..... seems like I cant throw ENOUGH money at it :unamused:

Spilner
08-08-2010, 04:21 AM
thats like my CB, it was a perfect running bike I just bought the cafe bits and put them on. The widebody on the other hand rapes my wallet.

98Wagoon
08-08-2010, 04:27 AM
I keep sitting around thinking "widebody, no widebody.... widebody? noo widebody.."

I would love it, but.. I like my wheels too much to get rid of them for wider wheels. and I dont feel like spending all the extra money to space everything/custom widened stance.. I think I'll suck it up and stay stock when I replace all the fenders

Spilner
08-08-2010, 04:30 AM
I got my kit cheap so that's why I'm doing it. If that wasn't the case I'd do the 240sx fender flare mod if I wanted the wider stance.

98Wagoon
08-08-2010, 04:33 AM
yeah. that would be a good reason  I'll just keep telling myself how clean it will look all brand new and shiny with the door trim taken off and such.. and rust-free..... definitely rust free....... Im going to make sure the fenders get undercoated on all sides that ARENT getting painted so I never, ever have to worry about this again*

Seraphinwolf

I tried to talk him into flares or widebody a bunch of times. That rot is spreading fast!

And Matt BIGTIME got a good deal on that kit!

Spilner
08-08-2010, 04:14 PM
if there's rot cutting out may be a better option and using flares, the 240sx flares fit perfect and they're around 250 shipped

It doesnt seem like you are the type of person that is looking to make a sweet looking one of a kind subaru.

I would not waste the money on a widebody kit, just to fix the rust. Have you thought about the time and money you will have to invest after you get the parts? Labor on fiberglass panels is crazy rediculous.

Plan on a minimum of $1000 for just fitment and installation of a widebody kit. Then paint...

Getting a bodykit or flares just because of rust is stupid.

Spilner
08-08-2010, 05:04 PM
hate to tell you but flares are an easy mod and can be installed yourself in a weekend, thats why I recommended it. That and if he can cut the rust/rot out in the process that'll save a lot of money on bodywork fixing the rust.

Seraphinwolf
08-08-2010, 05:04 PM
Hell yeah the 240 flares look great! I may rock them in the rear on my wagon till I can widebody it properly to match the bumper along the 1/4 and doors

98Wagoon

Ive already priced out OEM inner and outer rear quarters from a dealership (only way I'll go for fitment and quality.. plus I get a discount) and it'll be about $1100. I can supply any body shop with my own paint due to my uncle's company that is.. well.. one of the biggest automotive refinishing supply companies in the merrimack valley... all in all, Im guessing $1100 for the fenders. then 2-3k for install/100% paint. I can do that and have the car back to a point where it was essentially better than it was when it rolled off the showroom floor and never (save for accidents/anything unforseen) have to worry about it. if I go widebody, and someone dinks my fender.. now I've got thousands in damage in what could have been fixed with just a pull and some sanding. Id rather not buy a kit, have my rusty, ****ty fenders cut off, have to go out and buy new inner fenders anyway because they're rusty and ****ty also, THEN have custom fab work done. THEN get it all resprayed.. and THEN have to worry about widening the physical stance of the car and proper fitment of wheels etcetcetc.

all in all, Id rather have it 100% stock looking.. well.. aside from the obvious stuff Ive done already and when I get around to jdm wings.. all the extra money I spend trying to widen it would be, in my eyes, much better spent elsewhere in the car. Rob actually kind of nailed it when he said I dont seem to be the guy that needs the custom car. I want to be different (is swapping a gc/gf/gm even considered "different" anymore?) and to be honest, if worst comes to worst and someone takes out a fender or I take out a fender on the car, I dont want to have to take a loan out to redo custom work.

yes, all new panels and paint will be expensive for a one-shot deal. but the inner fenders and the inside of the outer fenders WILL be undercoated and sealed, and the body shop I know I'll be using is, in my opinion, one of the best around. its going to be worth the headache and the potential heart attack when I fork over the money, but in the end, it wont be just a "patch". and more than anything, thats what I want. I do, also, fully intend to keep records of this bodywork getting done, and at some point in the near future upgrading my insurance to custom car insurance. after reading about pudvarwrx's wrx swapped rs getting totalled, and him still coming out on top due to his custom car insurance, it will be worth whatever raise in rate to know that if something happens, it WILL be covered.

alright.. bed time, dammit!

picked up almost everything for my 5 speed swap today thanks to Taiden. got a few extra tidbits too just in case. need a rear diff, but that wont be too hard to find. Im gonna clean up the parts and repaint some of it so it looks good again. might do something silly like paint the driveshaft and everything pink? http://www.rs25.com/forums/images/smilies/lol.gif we'll see. I need to source my diff, maybe find a short throw to toss in it while its all sitting around doing.. well.. nothing..

also need a new clutch and flywheel. but that was obvious..

pics in the morning. I definitely need to clean up some rust.. but.. whatever..

Psst. if you got custom car insurance, it would cover the widebody too...

Good luck with the rear diff, maybe you will get lucky and find an LSD one. You should get bigger brakes too.

I know the widebody would be covered.. just seems like such a pain in the dick tbh.. I'll have to figure out which LSD I can use. cuz thats kinda what I would be most happy with.. I  lsd haha

as for brakes.. I know where theres a set of two pot fronts just waiting for an MBC.....

****ty mood lately. cars driving me nuts. collecting parts is driving me nuts. not having money saved up to just get this all done NOW is driving me nuts (and yes, last year if I wasnt a dip**** I could have had this car swapped and stg3 MONTHS ago.. I just didnt think my OT would dry up.. stupid..) not sure where Im going with the car anymore. the exhaust is still ****ed. the rust is getting worse. I keep getting it in my head to sell all the parts, patch the rust, and just save for a wrx and give up whats pretty much my dream. I had the end in my mind of only a few months. at the rate Im going and all the stupid little parts I still have to collect its going to turn into a year real quick. I dont want to sit around talking about my build thats only about 20% ready. Im sick of sitting here telling myself "when the car is done..." but never knowing when it will be. I dunno. I guess I have a lot on my mind lately and I feel like I never accomplish anything I strive for, or it fails miserably. I dunno. maybe I'll get over my little mood and things will get back in order.. thats all for now..

sorry about the rant...

Spilner

If it were me I'd sell everything I could and save for a car that's already swapped or wait til I found a clean car to swap myself cause dealing with rust is a pita.

Whatever you do just stick with it my car has been torn up and hasn't left my garage since January. The first car I swapped I drove for a year and a half before I swapped it.

Seriously though look into the 240sx fender flares, they can be installed in a weekend and most likely you'll end up cutting out most of the rust if not all of it.
