Need some help.
We recently had our DSL changed at our house to a static ip address with the modem in bridge mode (was routed previously, DHCP address assigned). This will allow our router to handle the routing instead of the DSL modem (ultimately allowing us to VPN our two locations in the near future).
The issue is I have entered all the IP/gateway/sub mask/dns info into the router but cannot get on the internet. The router is operating in NAT.
I talked to tech support and they said the modem seems to be working fine from their end so they are not sure what the issue is. They told me I have to type in the ip changes etc. into my computer which doesn't make sense to me since the router is handling ip assignments on my LAN.
Anyone willing to help me with this?

i had the same issue when i went to comcast, the internet worked fine without the router, but when i plugged it in it blocked all comm.
I eneded up reseting the router to default settings and it worked... prolly not your case but. Give it a try.

The only thing I haven't checked is my firewall settings on the router (its a firewall/vpn router, pretty strict settings from the factory). I'll check those. Other than that I'm not sure. It was working fine on the old setup but we couldn't vpn on the old setup due to the modem controlling the routing.

what sort of router and modem are you running?
what are you putting in for configuration right now? You can give us dummy addresses if you like :p

Excuse me if I'm a bit rusty, haven't setup anything with DSL in a while.
Even though the modem is operating in bridge mode, there are certain models that do not automatically shut off their DHCP functionality. This can lead to issues (obviously) when the router is handling the negotiation of the PPPoE connection. Might be a good idea to go ahead and hard reset the modem, and reconfigure it for the bridge, but make sure you shut off the DHCP server before setting it to bridge mode.
Also, double check that they didn't change your PPPoE username & password when they switched it to a static IP setup, or, for that matter, if you're even supposed to be using PPPoE or some other type of configuration (perhaps they use DHCP w/DHCP reservation?).
Dunno if any of that helps, or if it's stuff you've already checked. If it is, feel free to bounce ideas/thoughts back and perhaps I can toss some back at you. :)

^^ just saw this post after I posted, lol. Info on the hardware would be good, as well as some good old configuration screenshots too
And now back to updating the rom on my Droid lol

Thats a good point, I have ran into some ATT clients where they are dsl and needed PPPoE, I've also seen ATT business accounts have difficulty transferring over. Though I have seen DSL from conversent not use PPPoE and use a static IP only.
rofl a subaru commercial just played while typing that last paragraph.

it could be a matter of power cycles. if you swapped out a node you might have to clone that node's MAC - some ISPs limit access based on the MAC addr.
it sounds like the tech support guy was assuming you were directly connected into the modem (from your PC). he was likely reading from a manual.
i hate using this term, but the tech support guys like it. you could try telling them to "send a refresh signal" to the modem while the router is hooked up, then power cycle both. this may reset the MAC the modem wants to bind to.
