was looking to see if any one has a 245/40r17 on a 17x8 (5x100) et48 wheel? Got some used Rota SVN's im putting on my wagon and want to see if a 245/40 will fit. I have been searching all over nasioc and keep geting mixed answers so i figure it would be best just to test fit one first. Wagon is all stock suspension so ride height should not be an issue. Rolled rear qt lips for clearance just need to see if the tires will touch the shock. Or if any one has an old 245/40r17 tire they dont want any more i can mount it to one of the rims to test.

I'd test fit one of SHTBRX's if I were you. You'll see the desired effect.

No you aren't getting what we both just said. The 245 of Eric's will show you if it will fit or not. That's what I said not 'see' as in looks but 'see' as in find out.

I had a set of 245/45/17s on 17x8.5 and I ran a 3mm spacer so it would hit the strut. Now going to be running 255/40/17 with the spacer for the rear. This is on a sedan with minor fender rolling with a slight pull.

Offset is everything really.

that it is
i have 225/50/17 in there now think im gonna run some spacers on the rear. fronts look fine for a 245, but on the rear the rim/tire is a finger from the strut. Should be fine but i would rather have that lil bit more plus the front are flush with the fenders and the rear appear to be in further so the spacers will help that too

with a 50 sidewall your speedo will be off a little. As for the SVN's they use a 48mm offset, and according to my research 245 will be the max you can have before you have rubbing on the strut. You will have fender rub, but probablly not on the struts.
and if your running the 225's you prolly wont rub, they are much narrower.

Keep an eye on body roll. It was make a big difference also on how much you can run without rubbing. I ran 235's on my 97' OBS for a good long time but I had coilovers(less spacing issues behind the wheels) and had the rear spaced up some for stance and to leave my paranoid mind at ease that is wasn't gonna rub. BUT there are plenty of losses with coilovers as well IMO unless you spend GOOD money on GOOD coilovers. And no I do NOT call BC's good coilovers.
