On Saturday I was at Mount Snow and parked at Carinthia. I had a feeling that the frozen tundra would thaw as the temps rose. Well when I left at 3pm the section where I was parked was muddy and rutted up by cars spinning their tires trying not to get stuck. There was this Dodge Ram truck that was "playing" in the mud which was making it worse.
Last April my Saturn VUE sunk in a mud puddle (bog). It is not a good feeling when you start driving and you can see the Traction Control light flashing and all of a sudden your front wheels start to dig a hole in the mud and the front end starts to sink. It took me about 5 minute of rocking and cutting the wheel to get out of that one. After that I swore the next vehicle would be AWD. It took about 15 minutes to go about 500 feet. That was my last time to Mount Snow that season.
Back to Saturday. I was in the same spot, same conditions. I backed up put into 1 (using the sport shift mode) and started to drive. I felt the front end start to sink and without any effort the Forester just seemed to keep moving!! I felt like I was floating in the mud. I had NO Problems getting out of the lot where my VUE almost needed to be pulled out. I am very impressed. I even have the OEM tires. I can not wait to see what March and April brings (hopefully snow).
