Inspection is coming up next month and I'm in dire need of front brakes & rotors. I'm looking for replacement OEM brakes as inexpensive as possible without being totally unsafe. We'll be doing the work ourselves. I'm not looking to upgrade and I'm not looking for slotted or drilled rotors.

Dan and I found this on ebay: autospecialty (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Legacy-GT-2005-2006-2007-2008-OEM-Brake-Rotors-Pads-F_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem3efc0a8412QQitemZ2705 16519954QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccess ories) for $110 shipped. I found somewhat of a review of them on lgt.com but trying to weed through all the BS was tiresome.

I was also thinking of going through subarugenuineparts.com and ordering them there. They had the rotors for $69.5/axle and the brakes for $69.5. It'd be about $100 more to order through here.

Is it worth spending the extra hundred to order through subarugenuineparts.com or do you guys think autospecialty would be an okay deal for someone who doesn't really play around in their grocery-getter?

Do you really want to cheap out on something as important as brake components? $110 shipped for pads and rotors makes me :unamused: OEM sounds like the better route. I bet subaruwrxparts could help you out.

Cheap rotors warp VERY quickly. If price is the concern, some of the companies that make upgraded kits also make OE spec kits that are typically equivalent in performance.

Nothing wrong with slotted rotors Jess. Frankly I say go with a good aftermarket one or go OEM. Want me to look and see what I can find?

Thanks for all of this great feedback! I had checked out subaruwrxparts.com and all they had were the slotted rotors which I didn't want to consider... they're too expensive for me. I'll PM Nick though.

Gaddis, if you happen to spot a good deal, let me know. Thank you!!!!

aftermarket tend tend to cost the same as OEM and perform/last longer.

I PM'd Nick and he gave me some reallllly good prices on the Hawk HPS pads and the slotted rotors as well as OEM.

I'm trying to decide if I want to go with Hawk pads & slotted rotors or if I want to go OEM. Hmm... the price difference isn't that bad at all, however, there goes my exhaust AGAIN. :unamused:

What do you guys think of the Hawk HPS front & rear pads? And what about the difference between slotted rotors & OEM.

Slotted for you is only going to be about appearance. You're not going to get into a situation where you're heating the Hawk pads to the point of off gassing.

As far as pads go, though, I'd tell ANYBODY to throw away the stockers. They are the worst ever. I liked my EBC RedStuff pads and I LOVE my Hawk HPS. They work well when hot or cold, and they warm up quick enough when wet.

So I have def decided on getting the Hawk HPS pads. Now as far as the rotors go, I guess my next concern would be whether or not the slotted rotors would last longer than the OEM ones. Either way, I may have to go with OEM rotors because I just got home from the dentist a little bit ago and my wisdom teeth maxed out my plan for the rest of the year so I had to pay them $300 for a cleaning and a filling. There goes my exhaust AND a better brake set up :banghead: Oh well.

The pads will make the biggest difference in braking performance, so you will notice a difference even with OEM rotors.

so i went to get my oil changed and they checked my brakes for me. apparently i have 30% life left in the front & 50% in the back. my rotors are realllllly rusted though and that's why they're squeeking. i'm thinking what i'll do is get oem rotors all around and change those out but also get the pads for the front so when they are ready to be changed i've got 'em. at least i'm not in a rush to get the pads anymore though!

thanks for all the feedback... you have no idea how much this has helped me!

I have HPS pads on my RS and so far they've proven to be excellent. I'd definitely recommend them.

Don't bother with slotted rotors. They're a purely aesthetic mod that will do nothing but limit brake performance. I went with Centric's Cryo-Treated rotors on my RS to match the Hawk pads. They're coated to prevent rusting of the tophats and vanes (the parts that rust as the pad doesn't clean them off.) Evidentally, Centric is a very well reputed brake company that makes rotors for Stoptech's BBKs, but the prices of their parts are very reasonable.

When buying parts for cars, I believe in never cheaping out on the three important parts. Tires, brakes, and suspension -- in that order. Don't buy cheap brake parts.

Somes users on legacygt.com are using the autospecialty. They meet or exceed the oem garbage. I bought the pads for $25 and got these in the mail
